DIVISION OF ENERGY

Propane Autogas Corridor Project

The Southeast Propane Autogas Development Program, supported by funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities Program and administered by DMME and Virginia Clean Cities at James Madison University, is creating jobs and increasing the number of autogas vehicles and fueling stations in the Southeast United States.

Under this initiative, public and private fleet vehicles in 10 southeast states, Denver and Pittsburgh, will be converted to run on propane autogas in order to reduce vehicle emissions and displace gasoline consumption.
Specifically, this Program is:

  • Converting more than 1,200 public and private fleet vehicles from gasoline to propane autogas
  • Implementing more than 30 propane autogas refueling stations throughout the southeast U.S.
  • Displacing an estimated 15.7 million gallons of gasoline
  • Eliminating an estimated 16,000 tons or more of airborne pollutants
  • Creating dozens of jobs
